The Motu people of Central Province in the Southern Region traditionally used a wooden canoe called a Lakatoi. The Lakatoi was used for voyages and navigation, allowing our people to travel the seas. To date, one of the most culturally significant events first took place on a Lakatoi - the ”Hiri Trade” of clay pots with sago within the Southern Provinces.
